Wildwood Community Info
The older community of Wildwood is one of the most established neighborhoods to be found in the Southwest quadrant of Calgary. The land on which the community now sits was once used for quarrying by Thomas Edworthy, whom neighboring Edworthy Park is named after. Wildwood became a residential development in 1956 and is situated on an escarpment of the Bow River. The community is bordered by the Bow River plateau to the north, the Sarcee Trail to the west, 38th Street SW to the east and the Bow Trail to the south. The neighborhood is represented by Ward 6 in the Calgary City Council and has a very vibrant community association.
Wildwood's location makes it one of the most sought after residential communities. The Bow Trail and Sarcee Trail provide easy links to areas such as the Downtown core, making it the ideal place to reside if you want a speedy commute to work. These links also make it easy to access plenty of the great retail areas that the city has to offer such as the Dragon City Mall and the Marda Loop. Wildwood has plenty of wide open spaces for residents to enjoy too and is within walking distance of several large recreational areas of Calgary including Edworthy Park, the Shaganappi Point Golf Course and the Optimist Athletic Park. The active community association has its building which provides amenities for residents to use such as meeting rooms, a standard kitchen, tennis courts, playing fields and an outdoor skating rink. There are also many programs and clubs available in the neighborhood including Guides, Scouts, the Boys & Girls Club, dance programs, fitness programs and sports programs. Parents of student-aged children will find that there is a very good public school serving the community.
